Repairman holding monitor tool to check and fixed car air conditioner system | Mevert Automotive & Tire Center Steeleville, IL It’s summertime, which means sweaty rides if your air conditioning isn’t working. Most people don’t think about air conditioning until it breaks. However, with regular maintenance of the heating and cooling system in the spring and fall, you can minimize surprises. When you have an experienced truck repair technician for AC repair, you can get it fixed faster. You won’t have to look for an AC maintenance and repair technician; just bring your truck to Mevert Automotive & Tire Center in Steeleville, IL, and we’ll get you back on the road as quickly as possible.

Signs You Need AC Repair

Most signs that you need AC repair are quite obvious, but others are not.

1. Air Conditioning System Blows Hot Air

When you get only hot air from the AC vents, the air conditioning system may be low on refrigerant. Other factors that could cause hot air include a malfunctioning compressor or compressor clutch, clogged vents, or supply duct issues. Our AC technicians can check the pressure in the system and diagnose the mechanical issue.

2. You Hear Strange Noises

You should hear some noise when you turn the air conditioning in your truck on. However, if you hear banging or rattling, you have a problem and may be without cool air soon. Noises could indicate an obstruction or a broken part, and you should bring your truck into Mevert Automotive & Tire Center as soon as possible for AC diagnosis.

3. You Notice Water Leaks

If you have cold water on the passenger floor, the condensation drain is clogged. You can often clear it by using compressed air. However, if the hose is broken, you’ll have to replace it. Letting it leak could cause the floor to rust out, and the interior of the cab can start forming mold from the moisture in the air.

4. The Air From the Vents Stinks

If you notice a bad smell from the air conditioning system, it may have mold in it. This could cause health issues, especially if you already have conditions such as asthma. The AC technicians at Mevert Automotive & Tire Center in Steeleville, IL, can track down the problem and clean it or replace the contaminated parts.

5. The Air Conditioning System Works on One Speed

If you only get air at one speed, most likely, the blower control resistor is malfunctioning. In most cases, it’s located behind the glovebox next to the evaporator. It has springs for each speed, and one or more of the springs or the soldering on the board may be broken.

6. No Intensity

When the air blows at varying speeds but is not strong, regardless of which speed you select, you may have a leak or an obstruction. The air works, but it can’t keep up with cooling the cabin. The obstruction could be in any part of the system but is often in the expansion block or orifice tube. An AC technician at Mevert Automotive & Tire Center can check the pressure in the system to determine whether there’s a blockage and can use diagnostic equipment to locate a leak.

7. No Air

Obviously, something isn’t working, but the question is, “What?” No air conditioning could be due to several factors, including a malfunctioning compressor, compressor clutch, clogged condenser, bad evaporator core, a clogged expansion block or orifice tube, or a leak. You may also have a blown fuse or a malfunction in the vent system. Finally, the serpentine belt that runs the air compressor could be slipping enough so that it doesn’t turn the air compressor.
